God’s Guidance In All Seasons of Life

This verse is a beautiful reminder of the role we play in God’s triumphant plan. It paints a vivid picture of how He leads us – no matter where we are – on a path of victory. It’s a journey that may not always feel victorious, especially when life is challenging, but God assures us that He is always guiding us. And through us, He spreads the “lovely perfume” of knowing Him to those around us.

A lovely perfume! What a beautiful image! When we think of perfume, we think of something that lingers, something that makes a mark on our senses, something that transforms the air around us. It’s not overpowering but rather gentle, pleasant, and inviting. This is how God’s love and grace touch the world through our lives. We are the vessels he uses to release the beautiful fragrance of His love, peace, and hope into a world that desperately needs it.

A Gentle, Inviting Aroma In Everyday Moments of Life

Like a lovely perfume, the aroma of God’s love doesn’t demand attention; it simply fills the space where it is released, drawing people in. When we live our lives rooted in Christ, that fragrance flows naturally. By spending quiet time with God and allowing His Word to soak into our souls, we become steeped in the aroma of His grace. As we go about our day, that sweet scent goes with us – transforming the atmosphere wherever we go.

Vessels of His Fragrance: Sharing God’s Love to the World

Imagine how this perfume might drift into the lives of those who need it most. The aroma of God’s love fills our homes through the way we interact with our loved ones. It wafts through conversations with friends, neighbors, and even strangers. It’s in the quiet moments of prayer when we intercede for someone who’s struggling. It’s in our actions, in the way we serve others, the compassion we show, and even in the patience we extend. Each moment is an opportunity to let the fragrance of knowing Him seep out into the world around us.

Trusting God’s Plan for Your Life

So wherever God has placed you today, remind yourself that you are part of His triumphant procession. Even in the difficult seasons, He is using you to spread the beautiful fragrance of His love. Trust that He can use your life, your story, and even your struggles to draw others to Him. Let the lovely perfume of His presence fill your heart and overflow to those around you. May the people God places in your path catch a whiff of His presence and goodness through your words, your actions, and your life, and ultimately lead them to the One who is the source of all grace.

Prayer for Today:

Dear Lord, Wherever You lead me today, let Your love and grace flow through me like a sweet fragrance, drawing others to You. Even though I may be walking through challenging times, remind me that You are guiding me every step of the way, and no matter where I go, You are already there. Fill my heart with the lovely aroma of Your presence, and let it linger in the words I speak and the actions I take. Use my life to spread the fragrant knowledge of Your goodness to a world in desperate need of Your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A New Day is Dawning: Finding Hope Amidst the Storm

As we witness the heart-wrenching devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Helene across the Southeast, I’m reminded of the powerful promise found in Luke 1:78-79: “A new day is dawning: The sunrise from the heavens will break through in our darkness, and those who huddle in the night, those who sit in the shadow of death, will be able to rise and walk in the light, guided in the pathway of peace.”

In this time of unimaginable loss our hearts ache for those who have faced devastating losses. Families have lost loved ones and are left without homes, communities are shattered, and the emotional toll is unimaginable. In the face of such destruction, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by despair. Yet, as followers of Christ, we are called to be His hands and feet in times of need and bring hope to those in need of help.

God’s Presence in Difficult Times

To those who are hurting: Know that you are not alone in this darkness. Many stand with you, offering their support, prayers, and hands to help. Reach out and lean on your community. Let us carry one another’s burdens as we navigate this difficult journey together.

To those still facing the threat of danger, hold onto hope. Rescue is on the way. There are countless heroes among us—first responders, volunteers, and everyday citizens—who are dedicated to ensuring your safety. Trust that brighter days are ahead, and let the promise of a new dawn fill you with courage.

How Can You Help?

And to those not directly affected, you can make a difference, and your role is vital. Here are some ways you can be the hands and feet of Jesus in this crisis:

  • Pray: Start by praying for those affected by Hurricane Helene. Pray for their safety, for the rebuilding of their lives, and for peace in their hearts. Prayer is a powerful tool that can provide comfort and strength to those in need.
  • Give Financially: Consider donating to reputable organizations providing immediate relief efforts. Whether it’s food, shelter, or medical assistance, your contributions can help rebuild lives and restore hope.
  • Volunteer Your Time: Reach out to local churches or relief organizations. They may need volunteers to assist with food distribution, clean-up efforts, or shelter management. Your time and effort can make a significant impact.
  • Support Local Businesses: As communities begin to rebuild, local businesses will need our support more than ever. Choose to shop local, eat local, and support those who are trying to recover from this disaster.

Carry Each Other’s Burdens

In Galatians 6:2, we are reminded to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those suffering from the aftermath of this hurricane.

As we respond to this crisis, let’s not forget that our actions, no matter how small, can reflect the love of Jesus. In the coming weeks and months, as recovery efforts continue, let’s stay committed to helping our neighbors. May we be His hands and feet, bringing hope, healing, and restoration to those in need.

A Prayer for Today: 

Dear Heavenly Father, 

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we ask for Your comfort and peace to surround every individual and family affected by this storm. Please provide them with strength and hope as they navigate the challenges ahead. 

Lord, we pray for the first responders and relief workers who are tirelessly serving those in need. Grant them safety and wisdom as they work to bring aid and comfort. May Your love shine through their actions, bringing encouragement to those who are hurting. 

For those of us who are not directly affected, stir within our hearts a desire to help. Show us how we can be Your hands and feet in this time of crisis. Help us to respond with compassion, generosity, and a willingness to serve our neighbors. 

We trust in Your promises, knowing that You are a refuge and strength in times of trouble. May Your presence be felt in every home, every community, and every heart that is hurting. 

In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

Trusting God’s Plan in our Darkest Days

“’For I know the plans I have for you,’
 declares the LORD,
‘ plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
 plans to give you hope and a future.'”
Jeremiah 29:11

Just like a caterpillar enters the dark, mysterious chrysalis before emerging as a beautiful butterfly, we often go through dark periods in life where it can be hard to see God’s hand at work. While walking through those valleys, we may feel alone, uncertain, and hopeless about the future. But even in those times, God is at work in us, bringing about transformation and growth that we cannot yet see.

God’s Promise in the Dark Valleys

The hopeful words of Jeremiah 29:11 remind us that God has a plan for each of us: “For I know the plan I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” This encouraging assurance was spoken to God’s people while they endured a long period of exile, feeling lost and abandoned. God saw their hardships, and He heard their cries for help. He met them in that lonely place and let them know His prosperous vision for their future. Even in their darkest time, God had not forgotten them. He was working for their good, preparing a future of hope and restoration.

God is Always Working, Even When We Don’t See It

In our own lives, we may experience seasons of difficulty where God’s presence feels distant. But just like the caterpillar in its chrysalis, those times are often the very moments when God is preparing us for something greater. His plans for us are always for good, even when we can’t yet see the end result.

So when you find yourself in a dark valley, remember that God is with you, working behind the scenes, transforming your circumstances for His glory and your good. Trust in His timing and have faith that, like the butterfly, you will one day emerge from the darkness with new strength, beauty, and purpose.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank you for your constant presence in our lives, even in the darkest valleys. Help us trust Your plans, knowing that You are always at work for our good, even when we can’t see it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Comfort in the Crisis: Even There, He Guides

"even there Your hand will guide me, Your strength will support me." Psalm 139:10

Even in the ICU? Yes, even there.

Even in the fiercest storm? Yes, even in that place.

In the grips of unrelenting pain? The answer is still yes.

In the anguish of a shattered heart, in the loneliest hours of the darkest night, or under the weight of heartbreaking grief? Yes, even there.

In the long days of uncertainty and overwhelming worry? Yes, God’s hand remains steady.

Even there…?

Yes, even there.

Psalm 139:10 offers us the incredible assurance that no matter where we find ourselves – whether in life’s most triumphant moments or in its deepest valleys – God’s presence is unwavering. He is there to guide and support us, even in the places of profound pain and uncertainty.

When the path before you feels impossible to navigate, and your heart aches with exhaustion and doubt, you are not alone. His guiding hand is always with you, even in the darkest and most overwhelming circumstances. In the rubble of broken relationships or the quiet moments of despair when no one else can see, God sees you. He is already ahead of you, offering His comfort, guidance and strength.

Even in the sterile stillness of a doctor’s office, when the diagnosis feels like too much to bear or the future looks uncertain, God is present. He’s not just aware of your struggles – He’s actively working in the midst of them, holding you up and leading you forward, even when the way seems impossible.

Even if the outcome is uncertain or the road to healing long, God is the God of restoration. He can mend the deepest wounds. His presence doesn’t depend on the situation changing immediately – it rests in His constant, faithful love.

So, wherever you are today, no matter how heart-wrenching or isolating the moment feels, trust this: God is with you, guiding you through. He works within us, bringing peace and new strength, walking with us through the rubble – whether it leads to reconciliation or healing within ourselves.

There is no place too dark, no moment too painful for His love to reach. He is already waiting there to guide you, to offer His strength. Even there.

“Lord, in every season and place, remind us of Your constant presence. Whether we stand in joy or walk through pain, may we feel Your guiding hand and draw strength from Your love. Help us trust that You are with us, even in the hardest moments, and that Your grace will carry us through. Amen.”

Tears in a Bottle

 "You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book." (Psalm 56:8 NLT)

God loves you so much and is attentive to every detail of your life. Not only does He know the number of hairs on your head (Luke 12:7), but He also cares so deeply about whatever painful circumstance you are going through that He collects your tears in a bottle and records each one in His book.

  • Your tears matter to God because YOU matter to God!

No other animal has the ability to shed emotional tears like humans, and I have often wondered what God was thinking when He decided to upgrade us with the capability of crying.

Recently I learned that our tears have different chemical makeups depending on the purpose behind the tears. For example, happy tears are chemically different from tears caused by heartbreak or grief. Similarly, tears caused by pain (like the ones a child cries when he skins his knee) are different than the ones we shed if we are slicing an onion or have an irritant in our eye.1

I found it even more fascinating that emotional tears have a high concentration of stress hormones, so our bodies are ridding themselves of toxins with each of those teardrops. Additionally, when we cry for an extended amount of time, our body releases extra “feel good” hormones – oxytocin and endorphins – that can help relieve both physical and emotional pain, allowing us to become more relaxed and providing us with a sense of comfort and calm, like a natural “painkiller.”

  • When the Creator of the universe hand-crafted humans, He equipped us with “release valves” for times when life becomes too overwhelming for us to hold it all inside.

Scripture also tells us, “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” (Psalm 126:5 NIV) This verse gives me hope that all our sorrowful tears are like tiny seeds, and one day they will produce a harvest of joy.

  • Our suffering is never wasted. God can bring a harvest of good from even the worst circumstances. (Romans 8:28)

Although God never promised that life here on earth would be without pain, suffering, …and tears, He does promise that He will one day wipe away every tear from the eyes of His children. “For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and He will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:17 ESV)

In heaven, believers will find eternal peace and comfort with our Savior. There will be no more pain, no more sickness, no more heartbreak, no more grief, no more death, and no more tears…because we will no longer need them!

  • Our Heavenly Father will wipe the last of our tears from our eyes when we arrive in our glorious eternal home.

Dear friend, if you are experiencing a painful season in your life, God sees you and cares about each teardrop that falls from your eyes. Trust that God loves you and can use even the most heartbreaking circumstances to bring about something good for His children. “When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” (Psalm 34:17 ESV)

Be a Prayer Warrior…Not a Prayer Worrier

“If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get His help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves.”  James 1: 5 – 7 MSG

On a recent trip to the beach, I sat on the shore and watched the waves roll in. I noticed how occasional gusts of wind blew the crests of the waves, causing a sea spray to shoot a fine mist of salt water into the wind and create seafoam.

The bubbly white foam rolled in with the waves and was deposited on the beach, leaving a collection of effervescent spume at the shoreline. Over time the mounds of frothy bubbles popped and then completely disappeared.

Observing these wind-whipped waves reminded me of James’ description of people who “worry their prayers.” When we mix our prayers with our worries and doubts, the outcome is like blending the wind with the waves, resulting in a buildup of seafoam that seems substantial, but in the end, it produces nothing.

Jesus taught us about the futility of worrying when he said, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” (Luke 12:25 – 26 NIV)

Worrying about our problems causes anxiety without solving anything, but praying about our problems brings peace because when we pray, we know that we have tapped into God’s heavenly storehouse of limitless and unimaginable problem-solving solutions.

Do you ever find yourself worrying about something instead of “boldly, believingly, without a second thought,” laying your cares at the feet of your Heavenly Father?

Don’t waste your time and energy churning with worries and ruminating about actual or imagined problems. Turn to God with your cares and trust that He will help you. He loves to help his children!

Be a Prayer Warrior, not a Prayer Worrier!

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 NLT

Dear Lord, Thank you that you are available 24/7 and that I can always turn to You in prayer. Forgive me for the times that I “worry my prayers” and fail to trust that You are big enough to handle any request.  When worries start to swirl in my mind, remind me of the wind-whipped waves and help me have faith to boldly and confidently approach Your throne of grace where I know You are ready and willing to help. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Be Faith-full Instead of Fear-full

“Surrender your anxiety!

Be silent and stop striving and you will see that I am God.

I am the God above all the nations,

and I will be exalted throughout the earth.”

Psalm 46:10 TPT

 

The COVID19 shutdown throughout the world has forced us to shelter in place and practice social distancing. For many of us, this is painfully difficult because we are accustomed to a much busier pace of life. We aren’t used to this much time alone and being isolated from our friends, family and co-workers.

Listening to the news – especially while we are alone –  brings a great deal of anxiety and fear. But Psalm 46:10 tells us to surrender our anxiety. Listening to God and acknowledging Him in these quiet moments can calm our anxiety and nullify our fear.

The passage also tells us to be silent and stop striving.  This is one time in the entire history of the world that most people have been forced to be still and cease our normal activities. Use this time to read God’s word and meditate on His promises, instead of marinating in 24/7 news reports, emails and social media posts.

While we have this “free time,” let’s get outside and take in the sights, sounds, and fragrances of God’s creation. There’s no better place to see God than when we view the works His hands have made.

During these days of uncertainty, our anxiety will melt away when we turn it over (surrender it) to God and focus our thoughts on Him, instead of on our distress.

Be Faith-full and not Fear-full.

Pray with Your Eyes on God – Not Your Difficulties

“Then Peter called to him: ‘Sir, if it is really you, tell me to come over to you, walking on the water.’ ‘All right,’ the Lord said, ‘come along!’ So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. ‘Save me, Lord!’ he shouted.”

Matthew 14:28 – 30 TLB

We may not be called to walk on water, but we do walk through periods of tumultuous circumstances in life. Right now our world is battling the pandemic virus COVID-19, and we are being tossed about in uncharted waters of a global shutdown. Every time we turn on the television or scroll through social media, we are inundated with a flood of bad news. If we focus on the swirling waves of difficulties surrounding us, we can easily feel like we are being swallowed up by the surge of life’s problems.

Peter experienced a rather unusual example of God’s power when he went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. His faith in Jesus gave him the courage to throw his leg over the side of the boat and step out into the stormy sea.  However, his faith wavered when he realized what he was doing. Once he took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the crushing waves around him, he began to sink.

Like Peter, we often start out with great intentions. We may be “prayed up” and filled with holy confidence before we begin to face the day. But once we wade into the undulating sea of life, our faith begins to falter, and we sink in despair. We feel ill-equipped to navigate the storms that batter us. Yet this doesn’t mean that we have failed. When Peter’s faith faltered, he immediately reached out to Jesus. In his time of greatest fear, he called on his Savior to rescue him.

When you are afraid of the troubles that swirl around you, keep your eyes on Jesus’ power rather than your own inadequacies. Call out to Him for help, and He will rescue you from the stormy seas.

“Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “truly you are the Son of God.”

Every Storm Runs Out of Rain

He’s still in The business of calming storms — even pandemic life storms. When you feel like your courage is melting in the face of these desperate circumstances, call on the One who can hush the towering waves of panic and turn them into peace. 🌊 🌊🙏🏻☝🏻✌🏻🙌🏼

“So they cried out to the Lord in their distress, and God brought them out safe from their desperate circumstances. God quieted the storm to a whisper; the sea’s waves were hushed. So they rejoiced because the waves had calmed down; then God led them to the harbor they were hoping for.”

Choose Faith Over Fear

Get vaccinated with a dose of Faith.

Read Psalm 91 aloud (below), and let the power of His words melt away your anxiety and fear. As you read the psalm, you can turn it into a powerful prayer to the Lord in behalf of you and your loved ones. God is greater than the hardships we face, and no problem is too great for God…not even COVID-19!

While He has us in a world-wide Holy Time-Out, you can replace panic with peace by spending time feasting on the soul food of His Good News, not the constant social feed of bad news.

God is teaching us to trust in HIM — Not the economy, not the stock market, not your job or your bank account.

Put your faith in the One who has overcome the world and rest in the shadow of His wings.

Choose Faith over Fear!

Psalm 91 ~

Whoever rests in the shadow of the Most High God
will be kept safe by the Mighty One.
 I will say about the Lord,
“He is my place of safety.
He is like a fort to me.
He is my God. I trust in him.”

He will certainly save you from hidden traps
    and from deadly sickness.
He will cover you with his wings.
Under the feathers of his wings you will find safety.
He is faithful. He will keep you safe like a shield or a tower.
You won’t have to be afraid of the terrors that come during the night.
You won’t have to fear the arrows that come at you during the day.
You won’t have to be afraid of the sickness that attacks in the darkness.
    You won’t have to fear the plague that destroys at noon.
A thousand may fall dead at your side.
Ten thousand may fall near your right hand.
But no harm will come to you.
You will see with your own eyes
how God punishes sinful people.

Suppose you say, “The Lord is the one who keeps me safe.”
Suppose you let the Most High God be like a home to you.
 Then no harm will come to you.
No terrible plague will come near your tent.
The Lord will command his angels
to take good care of you.
They will lift you up in their hands.
Then you won’t trip over a stone.
You will walk on lions and cobras.
You will crush mighty lions and poisonous snakes.

The Lord says, “I will save the one who loves me.
I will keep him safe, because he trusts in me.
 He will call out to me, and I will answer him.
I will be with him in times of trouble.
I will save him and honor him.
 I will give him a long and full life.
I will save him.”
