The Reason for Your Existence

Standard

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love…

Colossians 2:2a

Do you have a purpose for your life that defines who you are and provides a framework for your priorities? Have you established an intentional goal that sets the stage for each new day, one that focuses your thoughts and serves as the underlying theme for every moment of your life? Having a purpose gives clarity and guidance for every decision you make, every action you take, every word you speak, and every thought you think. It serves as a lens though which you view the world.

The dictionary defines purpose as “the reason for which something exists.” If you are searching for “purpose” and meaning for your life, turn to God and ask Him to help you find this. He uniquely designed each one of us with a specific purpose in mind. Who better than the Creator Himself to provide the answer for which you are searching?

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,

“Plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

Plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

The heavens declare the glory of God;
   the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Psalm 19:1(Today’s New International Version, ©2005)

He spreads out the northern skies over empty space;
       he suspends the earth over nothing…

He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters
       for a boundary between light and darkness…

And these are but the outer fringe of his works;
       how faint the
whisper
we hear of him!
       Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”

Job 26:7, 10, 14 (Today’s New International Version, ©2005)

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
   the name of the LORD is to be praised.

Psalm 113:3 (Today’s New International Version, ©2005)

Take time today to view the work of God’s hands. Listen for His whispers of love to you as you look upon His creation. Reflect on His glory and His unfathomable wisdom. Be reminded that the same God who created the ends of the earth also hand crafted you and loves you beyond measure. Set aside a time of quiet solitude to simply meditate upon this directive:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Psalm 46:10 (Today’s New International Version, ©2005)

Wonderful Works

Standard

As you do not know the path of the wind

Or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,

So you cannot understand the work of God,

The Maker of all things.

Ecclesiastes 11:5

Dear Lord,

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” (Ps 139: 14 – 16) Amen.

Trust your Creator with all the intricate details of your life.
He knows each chapter in the book of your life, and He knows the purpose for which he made you. You are never hidden from Him…He’s with you every step of the way.
