The Gift of Peace

Standard

”I leave peace with you;

I give *My* peace to you:

not as the world gives do I give to you.

 Let not your heart be troubled,

neither let it fear.”

John 14:27 (Darby Translation)

What is True Peace?

The end result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives is deep, lasting peace.  This peace transcends our understanding, meaning it can never be completely understood.  It is a peace that is difficult to explain and must be felt in order to fully comprehend its meaning.  Worldly peace is usually defined as the absence of trouble or conflict, but the peace of Christ is a peace we have in the midst of the trouble or conflict.  This peace is confident assurance in any circumstance.  It is a sense of God’s wholeness, of everything coming together for good.  Heavenly peace comes from total trust in God.  With this kind of peace we don’t need to be afraid of the present or the future.  Peace of mind and heart is a precious gift.  The world cannot give this kind of peace, because this peace is a result of God watching over and guarding your mind and your heart.

How do we obtain Heavenly Peace?

When you are in the midst of a crisis, worry, fear, doubt, and anxiety are constantly battling for your focus and energy.  A mind controlled by the flesh will race night and day, composing many what-if situations, and you will virtually live out the worst-case scenarios.  Keeping track of all the possible outcomes is exhausting.  So if you are in the middle of a life crisis and feel consumed with worry and fear, begin to shape your worries into prayers.  Let Christ know your concerns.  Lay your burdens at the foot of His cross.  Isaiah 26:3 tells us that “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”  So perfect peace is dependent upon total trust in our Heavenly Father.  Fill your mind with the promises found in His Word.  Trust in His promises to you.  In other words, believe His promises:   trust that He has a plan for your life; trust that He causes all things to work together for good; trust that He knows how all the pieces of the puzzle in your life fit together; trust that He will use this trial to perfect your faith; trust that He is all we truly need; trust that He will carry you when you are too weak to move forward; trust that He will provide your comfort, your strength, your provision, your shelter from the storm, your protection; trust that He is your Rock and your Salvation; trust that He will be your guide and give you wisdom; trust that He will light your path; trust that He sees your distress and hears your cries for help; trust that He is always with you and will never leave your side; trust that He catches each one of your teardrops; and trust that nothing is too difficult for Him.

What is the end result of Heavenly Peace?

We are instructed to “let the peace of Christ rule your hearts…”  (Colossians 3:12)  If we choose to let the Prince of Peace rule, then worry, doubt and fear will be banished from the kingdom of our hearts.  When we allow Christ to completely fill our hearts, He will completely displace all our distress.  When our hearts are overflowing with Christ instead of worry, God will stand guard over your heart and your mind, and He will bless you with a Heavenly Peace that no one can completely understand.

God carries His children

Standard

“In His love and mercy, He redeemed them;

He lifted them up and carried them

all the days of old.”

Isaiah 63:9b

God is faithful to keep His promises.  His love is unfailing.  In our weakness, He is our strength.

When you don’t have the energy to put one foot in front of the other,

or when you don’t know the next step you should take,

believe that God will carry you through any “desert” or “valley” in life.

Rest in His loving arms.  Feel the peace of His presence in your life and know that He is holding you

…and carrying you through the toughest times.

A Revelation for the New Year

I begin this new year with tremendous uncertainty in my life.  A medical crisis has impacted our home which leads to many concerns about my family’s future.  Each year, instead of New Years’ Resolutions, I prayerfully choose a Bible passage which I call my “Life Verse” for the year.  I call this verse my “New Year’s Revelation.”  It serves as a “theme” for my entire year, and God uses it to teach me new and wonderful lessons.    For 2011, I have chosen the above verse.  It reminds me that God’s love never fails.  Through His unfailing love, He will lead me and guide me.  He will give me strength when I have none left.  He will give me wisdom for the many decisions that I must face.  I am redeemed as His child, and His love will sustain me.  I’m trusting in His promises and believing that He will provide for all of our needs.  He knows every detail of my life, and He has a wonderful plan, even in the midst of this trial.  He will use everything for good, and He will never leave my side.  His is my Rock, my Fortress, my Shield and my Shelter.  His love never fails!

Rest for the Weary

Standard

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,

and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

Are you carrying a burden that seems to heavy to bear?  Do you need “rest” in your life?  The above verse offers hope to weary travelers in life.  Your burden may be financial, health, relational or work related, but in any case, you can find rest in the arms of Jesus Christ.  At this moment you may feel worn out in strength, energy or zest for life because of a battle you are facing alone.  You may be exhausted and all your pleasure may be drained.  You can find peace in the midst of your troubles by praying to Christ and laying your encumbrances at His feet.  He may not remove the trials from your life, but He will give you strength to face each moment, and He can provide a refuge from the storm which is raging all around you.

His peace is the only true rest we will ever know.  With Him, you are never alone in this life.  Seek Him today…

Let Your Light Shine

"Let Your Light Shine" by cbcooksey

When someone has been given much,

Much will be required

in return;

And when someone has been entrusted with much,

Even more will be required.

Great gifts mean

Great responsibilities;

Greater Gifts,

Greater Responsibilities!

Luke 12:48

The Bible tells us that we are each uniquely equipped with gifts and talents.  These abilities are placed within us in order to fulfill God’s purposes for our lives.  Can you think of the capabilities that you possess and see them through the lens of God’s vision?  If we listen to God’s prompting, He will direct us in exactly the way He desires us to use our gifts.  The more we are blessed by Him, the more He requires of us.  The beauty of this is that the more we are obedient, the more His blessings will flow to us.  How have you used your gifts and talents for God’s glory lately?

Happy Father’s Day to all the “Dads” in my life!  Thanks for your unselfish devotion, enduring strength and excellent example…

“God sends children for another purpose than merely to keep up the race – to enlarge our hearts; and to make us unselfish and full of kindly sympathies and affection; to give our shoulds higher aims; to call out all our faculties to extended enterprise and exertion and to bring round our firesides bright faces, happy smiles, and loving, tender hearts. My soul blesses the great Father, every day, that he has gladdened the earth with little children.”  (~Mary Howitt)

  •  “And you, my son, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you…

Go For It!

Go For It!

 cBrown.Cooksey

This image inspires me. It motivates me and urges me to just “Go for it!” It makes me think about chasing my passions with unhindered enthusiasm and belief in myself. There are those of us who dream, and there are those of us who follow our dreams. The distinction between the two categories is enormous. I could sit around all my life and imagine what it would be like if I were truly pursing those “wildest dream” interests imbedded deep within my soul, but without action I would never achieve anything. In order to fulfill my aspirations, I must capture a vision of my goals and leap forward in unbridled pursuit. I must unleash myself from self-doubt, worry, excuses, fear, what-if’s and negativism, while allowing myself to jump off the platform of my sure-footing toward the direction of realizing my full potential.

Let this photograph be a motivational scene for you, as well. Is there anything that has always been in your heart that you know you were created to do? Have you defined your true purpose in life?  What action do you need to take to leap in the direction of your passion? Set goals for yourself and visualize your new future. Launch forward in pursuit of your dreams!

Poem: Eyes that are Unseen

Eyes that are Unseen

Let me see, with eyes that are unseen,

The window into my soul.

Let me love with a heart that does not feel

The scars from life’s battles.

Let me think with a mind that is wise

In lessons from above.

Let me hope with a spirit that is free,

And anchored in God’s care.

Let me shine with a heavenly glow

By reflecting the One who is Light.

Hello world!

Standard

What started as a simple idea has turned into my personal ministry…finding a way each day to encourage at least one person whom God has placed in my path.  As wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, relative, friend, neighbor, co-worker, client, customer,  or acquaintance, there are moments EVERYDAY in my life that I can find a way to offer ENCOURAGEMENT to those around me.

There is a Proverb (11:25) which says, “He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”  Try it, and see how true this is.  No matter how badly things might be going in life, you can always look around and find people who are hurting more than you.  By reaching out to others, the focus is no longer on your own troubles. View life through a lens looking outward, as opposed to looking inward.  Your outward vista will be personal and unique because no one else walks the exact journey you are walking, making you uniquely qualified to touch those with whom you come in contact wherever you are.

I challenge (encourage) you to take one simple step toward someone in your path today.  Give a smile to the cashier at the grocery store, pay the waitress a little extra tip, call a friend who has been on your mind, take time to listen to the elderly person in line with you at the grocery store, send a note to someone going through a rough patch in life to let them know their situation is not forgotten, send a card to a co-worker going through chemo, or email a divorced friend who is spending the weekend alone without her children.  The list is endless, but you get the idea.  Who knows what a better place this world could be if we each made this our personal mission each day.  Try it and see.
